Tom, a closeted AFL footballer, can’t resist Noah, a genderqueer social butterfly. As their relationship deepens, Tom must reckon with what will happen to his career if he comes out.

Inviting Self-Tapes for the roles of:

Tom Eliades (co-lead)

Tom, 34, is a Greek-Australian closeted AFL footballer. Tom is a private, introverted man who hates being in the spotlight, especially for the publicity and media commitments that come with his vice-captain position – which makes it hard for him to fathom the media storm that he would find himself in, if he came out. He’s deeply committed to his relationship with Noah, even when it means pushing his boundaries and comfort zone.

Noah Lim (co-lead)

Noah, 23, is a bright and ambitious Asian-Australian man, born in Australia to immigrant parents. He is proudly queer, energetic and colourful, despite growing up with an abusive father. Although he finds himself quickly falling for Tom, Noah is firm on his boundaries and not willing to compromise his beliefs for the relationship.

Inviting expressions of interest along with showreels for the roles of:

Quinton (recurring cast)

Quinton, 65-70, is Tom and Noah’s old queen of a neighbour. He might be a little nosy, but his intentions are pure – he wants to protect young members of the LGBT community.

Maria (guest cast)

Maria, 55, is Tom’s overbearing footy mum. While she can be a bit intense campaigning for her son’s career and love life, deep down she just wants Tom to be happy.

Siti (guest cast)

Siti, 40-45, is Noah’s mum, a Malaysian immigrant who has recently escaped an abusive relationship. She loves her son deeply, and is hopeful about the new chapter of her life.

Kurt (guest cast)

Kurt, 24, is a fellow footballer in Tom’s footy club. Kurt conforms to the masculine stereotype of footballers, and is sometimes prone to homophobic and sexist outbursts, but is surprisingly happy to participate in a pride-round ad.

The production of ‘Become The One’ is also inviting expressions of interest for various background extras, with availability for one day of shooting – yet to be determined – in mid September.

Cast will be asked to look after their own hair and make-up as briefed. They will be asked to dress from their own wardrobe, while lead actors might have some specific items supplied.
